It’s a state requirement; it fits neatly in your front windshield and requires a passing grade. This is your state’s inspection sticker. Upon arriving to your inspection station, every motorist hopes to pass. However, that isn’t always the case.
The importance of this inspection is to ensure vehicle safety and to be sure vehicles aren’t emitting harmful fumes that pollute our environment. Before heading out for your next inspections there are things that you can look for to ascertain a passing grade.
Here is a simple check list to avoid a failed inspection:
1. Make sure all lights are in working order, brake lights, headlights and blinkers. If any of these lights are not working, get them fixed before the inspection.
2. Make sure no vehicle warning lights are illuminating on your dash. If by chance one or more are lit, check with your Victory Nissan mechanic to determine the problem. (We check engine lights for FREE)
3. Tire pressure is another problem as is excessive tread wear. Be sure to check all four!
4. Make sure you check your brake pads for wear. Brakes MUST be in good condition in order to pass inspection.
5. To be on the safe side, get a tune-up and oil change, this can help with engine efficiency and fewer toxins.
6. Make sure ALL seat belts are in working order.
7. Change out your dull windshield wipers.
8. Last, have all documents ready ahead of time, i.e. insurance and registration cards.
If by some reason you still fail your inspection, don’t get angry with your technician- he or she is assuring your safety. Work with them to get your car in shape, it’s all in the name of safety.
No one likes the look of the failed inspection sticker. Though the sticker is only a small 3x4 dimension, seeing that huge black line indicating failure makes it look as big as the entire windshield.

Great artcile, I just moved to Virginia from the west coast and had no idea that I needed an inspection. The only inspection they do out west is smog.
